Emergence is a body of work spanning multiple projects. It is an evolving investigation into concepts and experiences of ‘Nature’, ecological demise, and the transformative, mystical dimensions of the encounter between ‘human’ and ‘nature’. The work examines this encounter as a hybrid site, holding potential for both spiritual expansiveness, and sinister implication; both intimate connection, and violent separation/ fracture.

The project takes the form of sculptural installations in which bio-plastics are used to explore the flux and tension between natural and synthetic, living and dead, real and imaginary. The formal and material liminality of the objects suggests a continuum and a multitude which unravel in between such presumed binaries.

Emergence dwells in ecological grief while asking: what is it exactly that we are grieving? What happens to mystical connection when the more-than-human realm is tampered with, increasingly replaced by man-made substitutes and interventions?

The room size installation of gently moving sculptures, mapped sounds, wind and light, culminates into a fantasy world full of grief, wonder, terror and awe.
